Vaivari Technical Aids Centre is starting to implement a new approach – the coupon method, which allows people with functional impairments to receive state-funded technical aids more quickly and conveniently, reducing bureaucracy and making the process clearer and more user-friendly.
The coupon method gives individuals the opportunity to choose the most suitable technical aid from several qualified service providers within the value of the coupon, taking into account individual needs and convenience. For example, if a rollator is needed, a person can choose the model that best suits them – lighter, adjustable, or with additional features.
“Our goal is for the technical aids system to become closer to the individual, and every step to be thoughtful and tailored,” emphasizes NRC “Vaivari” board member Zoja Osipova.
The initiative is being implemented in the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Mechanism project “Promoting the Accessibility of Technical Aids,” which aims to provide more than 10,000 assistive devices to people across Latvia by June 2026.
