In this laboratory, specialists carefully assess a person's functioning. For example, they observe how a person moves, communicates, and performs daily activities. After this assessment, the commission decides which assistive devices the person needs. These can include, for example, a wheelchair, walker, special chair, or other device. The commission selects assistive devices that best match the person's abilities and help improve their daily life.
The article also contains information about a project completed by VTPC in 2023: “Creation and Implementation of the Functioning Assessment and Assistive Technology Exchange System.” The aim of the project is to improve the system by which people receive assistive devices.
This is done by:
- using digital (computerized) methods to assess a person's capabilities;
- employing unified, clear working steps (standardized protocols);
- involving specialists from various fields in one team (for example, doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers).
