Transfer of Assistive Device Ownership Some assistive devices are given to you by VTPC for ownership. This means: - You are the owner of the assistive device. - You do not have to return the assistive device to VTPC. - Usually, assistive devices that are not practical to return or reuse are given for ownership. Example: You are given orthopedic shoes for ownership. After use, they cannot be given to another person, so they remain with you. --- Transfer of Assistive Device on Loan Most assistive devices are given by VTPC on loan. A loan means that you use the assistive device for free, but it is not your property. In this case: - the assistive device is state property, - you use the assistive device for a specified period, - after the end of the contract, you must return the assistive device to VTPC, - if you cannot return the assistive device, you may have to pay a part of its value (for example, a small part or a larger part of the price). Example: You receive a wheelchair on loan for 3 years. After 3 years, you must return the wheelchair to VTPC. If the wheelchair is lost and you cannot return it, you may have to pay a part of the wheelchair's value. --- Transfer of Assistive Device for Rent Sometimes, the assistive device is rented out. Renting means that you pay for the use of the assistive device. In this case: - you conclude a rental agreement, - the agreement states how long you may use the assistive device, - the agreement specifies the conditions under which you may use the assistive device, - the agreement states how you must return the assistive device. Example: You rent a breathing assistive device (for example, a night breathing machine). The agreement states how long you use it and when you must return it. --- Redemption of Assistive Device The assistive device you receive on loan can be redeemed. Redemption means paying part of the value for the assistive device to become your property. To redeem the assistive device: 1. you must wait until the loan agreement term ends, 2. you must write an application to VTPC for the purchase of the assistive device. The redemption price is a small part of the assistive device's value. After redemption, the assistive device is your property. Example: The value of the assistive device is €100. You only need to pay a small part, for example, €15. After that, the assistive device is yours. --- When the Assistive Device Automatically Becomes Your Property Sometimes, an assistive device received on loan automatically becomes your property. This happens if: - you use the assistive device much longer than the time stated in the contract. Example: The contract states that you use the assistive device for 3 years. If you use it for 4.5 years, the assistive device automatically becomes your property. No additional documents are needed.
