Repair of assistive devices is the maintenance or damage prevention of a technical aid to ensure it operates safely and according to its intended purpose.
Warranty Repair VTPC
If the assistive device is received at the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre (VTPC), warranty repairs and maintenance are provided in our departments:
in Riga,
in Kuldīga,
in Rēzekne.
Repairs are carried out on-site in the department.
What to know about warranty repairs?
If the assistive device requires warranty repair, it must be submitted along with all accompanying equipment.
The warranty does not cover:
natural wear and tear,
damage caused by external mechanical impacts,
damage caused by improper use or failure to follow instructions.
Important!
After the warranty period, free maintenance is available only for those assistive devices that are issued for rent.
Batteries for electric wheelchairs and scooters are replaced free of charge once every three years from the state budget.
Dirty assistive devices are not accepted for maintenance and repair.
Substitute Assistive Device
The assistive device issued for the duration of the repair may differ from the one you usually use.

- If the assistive device needs warranty repair, you must return the assistive device along with all accompanying equipment that comes with it.
- The warranty is not valid if:
- the assistive device is naturally worn out,
- damage occurs from external impacts (e.g., bumping, hitting, dropping),
- damage occurs because you use the assistive device improperly or fail to follow the user instructions.
Important!
- When the warranty expires, free maintenance is only available for those assistive devices that you receive for rent.
- Batteries for electric wheelchairs and scooters are replaced free of charge once every three years. This is covered by the state budget.
- We do not accept dirty assistive devices for maintenance and repair. Please clean the assistive device before submission.
Substitute Assistive Device
- During the repair, you may receive another assistive device.
- This assistive device may be different from the one you usually use.

If the assistive device is received from the service provider, the warranty repair must be carried out by the same provider.
Before the repair:
you must contact the service provider,
you must apply for the repair.
User responsibilities:
inform the service provider if repair is needed,
deliver the assistive device to the service,
do not attempt to repair it yourself,
do not make structural or visual changes.
Other conditions:
Repairs are carried out within the time specified in the contract.
A replacement assistive device is not issued.

If you receive the assistive device from the service provider, the warranty repair is carried out by the same service provider.
Before the repair:
- you must contact the service provider,
- you must apply for the repair.
User responsibilities:
- you inform the service provider if the assistive device needs repair,
- you deliver the assistive device to the service,
- you do not attempt to repair it yourself,
- you do not change the structure and appearance of the assistive device.
Other conditions:
- repairs are carried out within the time specified in the contract,
- a replacement assistive device is not issued.
Repair of the assistive device in case of user-caused damage
If it is found during the repair that the damage was caused by the user's fault, the user bears the repair costs.
If there are disputes about the cause of the damage, an application can be submitted to the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre.
Repair of the assistive device in case of user-caused damage
If it is seen during the repair that the damage is the user's fault, then the user pays for the repair.
If the user disagrees with the cause of the damage, they can submit an application to the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre.
Post-warranty repair
After the warranty period ends, maintenance and repairs are carried out at the user's expense.
Cases when the warranty does not apply
The warranty does not cover:
normal wear and tear,
damage from mechanical impact,
damage caused by failure to follow instructions,
use of the assistive device for purposes other than intended.
After the warranty period ends
If the warranty has expired, maintenance and repairs are at the user's expense.
When the warranty is not valid
The warranty is not valid if:
- there is normal wear and tear (for example, parts wear out over time),
- there is damage from impacts, pressure, or other mechanical shocks,
- damage occurs because the user does not follow the instructions,
- the assistive device is used incorrectly, not as intended.

Repairs at VTPC (both warranty and post-warranty) are carried out only by prior appointment.

Before you go to VTPC:
- call the relevant department OR
- register in the client portal.
If you received the assistive device from the service provider,
first contact this service provider.
For example, if a wheelchair was issued to you by a specific clinic,
first call this clinic, not VTPC.
