Repair of Technical Aids

Repair of assistive devices is the maintenance or damage prevention of a technical aid to ensure it operates safely and according to its intended purpose.

Warranty Repair VTPC

If the assistive device is received at the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre (VTPC), warranty repairs and maintenance are provided in our departments:

  • in Riga,
  • in Kuldīga,
  • in Rēzekne.

Repairs are carried out on-site in the department.

What to know about warranty repairs?

If the assistive device requires warranty repair, it must be submitted along with all accompanying equipment.

The warranty does not cover:

  • natural wear and tear,
  • damage caused by external mechanical impacts,
  • damage caused by improper use or failure to follow instructions.

Important!

  • After the warranty period, free maintenance is available only for those assistive devices that are issued for rent.
  • Batteries for electric wheelchairs and scooters are replaced free of charge once every three years from the state budget.
  • Dirty assistive devices are not accepted for maintenance and repair.

Substitute Assistive Device

The assistive device issued for the duration of the repair may differ from the one you usually use.

Warranty maintenance and repair at the service provider

If the assistive device is received from the service provider, the warranty repair must be carried out by the same provider.

Before the repair:

  • you must contact the service provider,
  • you must apply for the repair.

User responsibilities:

  • inform the service provider if repair is needed,
  • deliver the assistive device to the service,
  • do not attempt to repair it yourself,
  • do not make structural or visual changes.

Other conditions:

  • Repairs are carried out within the time specified in the contract.
  • A replacement assistive device is not issued.

Repair of the assistive device in case of user-caused damage

If it is found during the repair that the damage was caused by the user's fault, the user bears the repair costs.

If there are disputes about the cause of the damage, an application can be submitted to the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre.

Post-warranty repair

After the warranty period ends, maintenance and repairs are carried out at the user's expense.

Cases when the warranty does not apply

The warranty does not cover:

  • normal wear and tear,
  • damage from mechanical impact,
  • damage caused by failure to follow instructions,
  • use of the assistive device for purposes other than intended.
