On September 4, 2024, NRC “Vaivari” and VTPC are organizing a conference “Technical Aids for Ensuring Personal Functioning – Opportunities and Challenges”. Time: September 4, 2024, starting at 12:00. Signe Tomsone, RSU Rehabilitation Department. 13:15 – 13:35 Topic: “Application of the International Classification of Functioning and Disability (ICF) in Assessing Personal Functioning – Experience of the Functioning Assessment Laboratory”. ICF is a system that helps describe a person's health status and abilities. Speakers: - Irina Grečnaja, Physician of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, NRC “Vaivari”, Functioning Assessment Laboratory, - Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine Physician Inese Svikliņa, NRC “Vaivari”. 13:35 – 14:00 Topic: “Assessment of the Environment and Selection of Appropriate Assistive Device”. This means that the specialist looks at how the person lives, where they work, how they move, and then selects an appropriate assistive device, such as a wheelchair, walker, or other device. Speakers: - Filips Bernadskis, NRC “Vaivari”, Health Promotion Consultant, - Occupational Therapist Agrita Kalniņa, NRC “Vaivari”. 14:00 – 14:30 Topic: “Current Issues in Limb Prosthetics and Custom-Made Technical Aids”. Limb prosthetics involves the manufacture and adaptation of prostheses for arms and legs. Speakers: - Ēriks Švēde, Head of the Vaivari Orthotics and Prosthetics Centre, Technical Orthopedist, - Technical Orthopedist Viesturs Drunks. 14:30 – 15:00 Topic: “Preparation of Necessary Documents for Receiving a Technical Aid”. Speaker: Laura Slavinska, Senior Physiotherapist at VTPC. 15:00 – 15:30 Topic: “Technical Aids and Everyday Life – User Experience”. A person who uses technical aids, such as a wheelchair, orthoses, or other assistive devices, shares their experience. 15:30 – 16:30 Discussion. Closing of the conference and congratulations.
