On the allocation of state-funded electric wheelchairs

Electric wheelchairs are allocated only based on the opinion of a doctor or specialist. This can be an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, technical orthopedist, or another specialist. The specialist checks: - whether the person can operate the electric wheelchair; - whether the environment is suitable for its use. --- **Standard electric wheelchairs** A standard electric wheelchair with state support weighs around 130 kg. Such weight cannot be easily and regularly carried, for example, up stairs or over high thresholds. Therefore, one important condition is a suitable environment. This means that at the place of residence there is: - an elevator, or - another suitable solution (for example, a ramp). --- **If the standard model does not fit** If the standard electric wheelchair is not suitable due to environmental reasons, a lighter model can be chosen. Such a lighter model weighs up to 35 kg in total. It can be purchased with a co-payment. This means that part is paid by the state, and part is paid by the person themselves. This helps to find the most individually suitable solution. --- **Functioning Assessment Laboratory** Before allocating the electric wheelchair, all applicants must visit the Functioning Assessment Laboratory. There, specialists: - show various wheelchair models; - allow them to be tried out; - help choose the most suitable assistive device. --- **If there are questions** If there are questions about a suitable technical assistive device, it is advisable to contact specialists.
