To apply for technical aids, you need to go to a specialist who will prepare the necessary opinion in the E-health system. This can be done by healthcare professionals:
   • Family doctor;
   • Attending physician;
   • Occupational therapist;
   • Physiotherapist;
   • Technical orthopedist;
   • Audiologist.
Note: For specific respiratory assistive devices, the opinion is prepared by a pulmonologist or cardiologist.

To request an assistive device, it is necessary to submit an application, which serves as a person's confirmation of the desire to receive a specific technical aid according to their needs.
You must submit the application to the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre (hereinafter VTPC):

• If you wish, you can prepare it together with a specialist

If the application is signed by an authorized person, a copy of the document confirming the rights of representation must be attached to the documents.

For certain types of technical aids, additional specific documents are required along with the application and the medical professional's opinion:

• Functional bed, anti-decubitus mattress, or bed table: 

  1. You must have the opinion of the State Commission of Health and Working Ability Experts regarding the need for special care. 

  2. Additionally, a Braden scale form (original) filled out by a medical professional must be submitted.

• CPAP / APAP therapy devices: 
  A results sheet from the examination indicating the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) must be attached.
• BiPAP therapy devices:
  An assessment of your self-care abilities using the Barthel index form, where the score must be between 16 and 20 points.
• Sports-related technical aids: 
  A confirmation from the Latvian Paralympic Committee regarding regular sports activities must be submitted.

• Positive: You are being registered in line for receiving an assistive device.
• Additional assessment: You are invited to the Functioning Assessment Laboratory (FNL) to accurately determine the most suitable assistive device for you.
• Supplementation: You are asked to provide the missing information.
  Rejection: If the situation does not meet the specified requirements (for example, the previous assistive device usage period has not expired).

When your turn comes, VTPC will send you an invitation:
   • To your E-address on the Latvia.lv portal.
   • By mail to your specified residential address.
   • To your email address if it is specified in the application.
After receiving the message: Contact VTPC to apply for receiving the assistive device.

At the time of receipt, the technical aids will be adjusted and you will receive training.
 

• Personal arrival: Wheelchairs, prostheses, orthoses, and orthopedic shoes must be received in person for individual adjustment. Self-care technical aids can also be received by an authorized person.
• Documents: A personal identification document (and authorization, if necessary) must be presented.
• Contract and payment: A contract is signed and a one-time patient deposit is made (7.11 EUR for adults, 1.42 EUR for children). Certain groups (for example, low-income individuals) are exempt from payment.
• Home visit: If you cannot come due to health reasons, you can request a paid home visit.
