Vaivari Technical Aids Centre celebrates its 15 years of existence in September with a conference “Technical Aids for Ensuring Personal Functioning – Opportunities and Challenges”, during which the understanding of the role of technical aids in human life will be increased and the process of their selection and adaptation will be discussed.
Italica Vaivari Technical Aids Centre issued 16,594 assistive devices in 2022, 19,877 assistive devices in 2023, and this year we plan to issue more than 20 thousand assistive devices. This is a large quantity that shows that the demand for technical aids in Latvian society has only grown, so it is increasingly important to talk about their opportunities and significance in human life,” says Zoja Osipova, a board member of NRC Vaivari.
At the conference, one can learn about the experience of the Functioning Assessment Laboratory, where, under the guidance of various specialists, the suitability of technical aids, such as limb prostheses, orthoses, mobility aids, orthopedic shoes, for a specific user is thoroughly evaluated. The Functioning Assessment Laboratory is the only one in Latvia that conducts in-depth assessments of individuals, after which a conclusion is made about the technical aids they need.
The conference will take place on September 4, from 12:00 PM to 4:30 PM, both remotely and in person at NRC Vaivari in the Round Hall, Asaru prospektā 61. Without prior registration, it can be watched live on the National Rehabilitation Centre Vaivari Facebook and YouTube pages. Link to the registration form: VTPC anniversary conference (nrcvaivari.lv)

In honor of this event, a conference titled “Technical Aids for Ensuring Personal Functioning – Opportunities and Challenges” is taking place. Therefore, it is important to talk more about their opportunities and significance in human life, says Zoja Osipova, a board member of NRC Vaivari.
At the conference, one can learn about the work of the Functioning Assessment Laboratory. Various specialists work in the laboratory. They carefully evaluate which technical aid is suitable for a specific person. For example, they assess limb prostheses (artificial arms or legs), orthoses (rigid or semi-rigid orthopedic devices that support joints), mobility aids (such as canes, walkers, wheelchairs), and orthopedic shoes. The laboratory is the only one in Latvia that conducts such in-depth assessments. After this assessment, specialists make decisions about what technical aids the person needs.
