New leadership and significant improvements in the technical aids service system

On October 10, 2025, a meeting of the consultative council of representatives from non-governmental organizations and professional organizations in the sector (NONPO) took place, where a new leadership was elected and significant improvements in the technical aids service system were presented.

The council's leadership: Inese Mukha was unanimously elected as the chairperson of NONPO, and Sanita Siņica was elected as the vice-chairperson.

Report on system improvements: Vita Deičmane, the service process manager of the State Technical Aids Centre (VTPC), informed about the work done in response to the State Audit Office's audit report. The implementation of improvements is supported by the European Union Recovery Fund (EU RF) project “Enhancing the Accessibility of Technical Aids”.

Main achievements:

  • The issuance of assistive devices using a coupon method for custom-made orthoses, self-care, and mobility technical aids has begun.
  • Warehouse processes are being restructured.

To improve public awareness about the technical aids process, the following measures are being implemented:

  • Work is underway to develop a new website with separate sections for professionals and residents.
  • An E-registration block is being created, where it is possible to apply for services and track the status of the application.
  • Outreach is being organized throughout Latvia to issue assistive devices closer to people's homes.
