Individually manufactured orthoses

First, you need to contact:

• the family doctor
• the treating doctor
• or a certified specialist (occupational therapist, physiotherapist, technical orthopedist, audiologist)

The specialist will prepare an opinion in the E-health system.

The opinion must specify:

• what type of orthosis is needed
• which part of the body it is intended for (e.g., wrist, knee, ankle, etc.)
• whether joint movement is needed and what type of movement (free, restricted, etc.)
• if necessary - the material (e.g., plastic, carbon composite)

You need to fill out the application for receiving an orthosis at the Vaivari Technical Aids Centre (VTPC).

• if the application is signed by another person, a copy of the power of attorney must be attached

Documents can be submitted in several ways:

In person 

• At VTPC departments in Riga, Kuldiga or Rezekne 
• original documents must be brought (if necessary)

By mail

• by sending a signed application and documents

By email

documents must be signed with a secure e-signature and can be sent to:

• vtpc@nrc.lv
• kuldiga@tpc.nrc.lv
• rezekne@tpc.nrc.lv

Online in the client portal

• you must log in with an e-signature
• you must fill out the application and attach documents

When your turn comes, you will receive an invitation:

• to your e-address
• by e-mail
• or by post

A list of service providers will also be sent.

Inform VTPC about your chosen service provider

Upon invitation:

• you need to contact VTPC or the service provider
• you need to schedule an appointment with the technical orthopedist

During the appointment:

• measurements will be taken
• a mold or 3D scan may be performed
• posture, movement, and deformities will be assessed
• the use of the orthosis in daily life will be discussed

You will also be able to choose the appearance of the orthosis:

• color
• materials
• padding

The orthosis is made individually.

The manufacturing time may vary depending on:

• complexity
• material
• required joints
• specialist workload

Your presence is not required at this stage.

When the orthosis is ready, you need to come for fitting.

Specialist:

• will check if the orthosis fits
• will adjust the fastenings and range of motion
• will ensure there is no discomfort

If necessary, the orthosis will be adjusted.

Orthoses must be received in person.

Upon receiving the orthosis, you will receive information about:

• proper use
• wearing duration
• maintenance
• actions if pain or discomfort occurs

There will be:

• a contract concluded
• an acceptance-transfer act drawn up

A state-mandated contribution must be made for the orthosis:

• 7.11 € for adults
• 1.42 € for children

Exemptions from the contribution may apply if:

• the household is classified as low-income
• the person is in a social care or rehabilitation institution
• the residence is registered at a medical institution
• the person is incarcerated

A relevant certificate must be presented.
